4R100 Transmission The 4R100 automatic transmission manufactured by the Ford Motor Company replaced the E4OD transmission in 1999 for the Ford Super Duty. It was mated to the Power Stroke 7.3L diesel engine up until the 2003 model year trucks. The 4R100 transmission was phased out in combination with the 7.3L. The replacements were the 6.0L Power Stroke engine and the 5R110W TorqShift transmission. The 4R100 was a reliably proven transmission at stock performance levels but as owners began to significantly increase torque output levels, the 4R100 became a "weak link" in the drivetrain. The aftermarket has proven to be a fortunate resource offering a multitude of solutions for 7.3L Power Stroke owners wishing to increase the 4R100's torque capacity. And even though the 4R100 is designed similarly to the E4OD, the components of the two are not interchangeable.
